Tutor training ...

Approximtely 15 hours of training is required to become a tutor:
• Learn what resources are available in the Literacy Society library
• Learn how to use the resources in a tutoring situation
• Practice in a training session before you come face to face with the student
• Learn the difference between teaching adults and children
• Learn the about the agency’s reporting requirements to the Ministry
• Learn what other professional training opportunities are available
• Meet fellow tutors and literacy staff
• Learn how to us the learning plans designed by the student/tutor coordinator

Tutor Training Location and Dates:
Training is provided approximately twice a year in groups of 10 volunteers. The training takes place in Gravenhurst at the literacy office or a location in Gravenhurst that is accessible to all volunteers. Handicapped accessibility is required at any location the Literacy Society uses. Refresher courses and workshops are planned on an as- needed basis.
