Tutor training ...
Approximtely 15 hours of training is required to become a tutor:
Learn what resources are available in the Literacy Society library
Learn how to use the resources in a tutoring situation
Practice in a training session before you come face to face with the student
Learn the difference between teaching adults and children
Learn the about the agencys reporting requirements to the Ministry
Learn what other professional training opportunities are available
Meet fellow tutors and literacy staff
Learn how to us the learning plans designed by the student/tutor coordinator
Tutor Training Location and Dates:
Training is provided approximately twice a year in groups of 10 volunteers. The training takes place in
Gravenhurst at the literacy office or a location in Gravenhurst that is accessible to all volunteers.
Handicapped accessibility is required at any location the Literacy Society uses. Refresher courses and
workshops are planned on an as- needed basis.
